The Sedona WG11 Annual Conference took place Jan. 16 & 17 in Tampa, FL. WG11 is focused on Data Security and Data Privacy Liability, with the mission goal “to help organizations prepare for and respond to data breaches, and to assist attorneys and judicial officers in resolving questions of legal liability and damages.”
During each conference, the members of the working group are asked to assist with and provide feedback on specific data privacy / data security initiatives. There are several WG11 team initiatives that were discussed at the 2017 annual meeting – one of which was just released to the public.
The Data Privacy Primer, just released for public commentary (commentary available through April 16, 2017), provides a practical framework for US privacy issues and identifies key privacy concepts in Federal and State law / regulations. This is the first material published to the public for WG11. Here is a link to the Primer:
Several other initiatives in progress focus on practical guidance and recommendations to counsel before, during, and after data breach incidents. Stay tuned to iDS’ website and LinkedIn pages for more Sedona updates throughout the year.
